This week the grade 8's have started their Japan Unit! Groups are moving through 8 stations to get some basic knowledge about this fascinating country and it's unique culture. Students will be looking at the Pacific Rim area as well as the four main islands of Japan and it's geography. A quick snapshot of the art of Haiku will allow the students to display their own creations in their visual journals. Background information and readings are available for students so they can look at the Edo Period and the effects of isolation during this time. Small groups are also researching world religions and will then have an opportunity to take part in a critical thinking activity.
In Language Arts we are laying some groundwork for the upcoming Essay Writing Unit which will begin next week.
