Students have been working on their stations for the Silk Road Travel Day next Tuesday, October 30th. Their two write-ups on city resources are due today and their trading cards need to be ready for Tuesday! Make sure you plan with your partner about artifacts and decor for your table.
There will be a Middle Ages quiz next Friday, November 2nd. Make sure you study your notes and assignments as the entire quiz is short answer!
In Language Arts this week, students have read the short story "Thank You Ma'am" and have had some good discussion around character.
There will be a Short Story final assessement on Wednesday, October 31st. Make sure you bring your binders to class as you will be able to look at your unit during this final evaluation.
The next project we are launching into is the Silk Road Traveling Merchant. Students will be traveling the Silk Road on Tuesday, October 29th and have an opportunity to share information about their home city, as well as learn about other trading posts from Cordoba, Spain to Nara, Japan!
This week students completed research on their specific role in the Middle Ages, and incorporated this information into one of seven scenarios. Role plays were performed on Wednesday, and they were both informative and highly entertaining for teachers and classmates!
In FLEX this week the grade 8 classes have been reading the story Waves by Eric Walters. Students are captured by the story of the tsunami that hit Phuket, Thailand a number of years ago. A big thank you to Nose Creek Parent Council for bringing in this author to speak to our students in early November. Students are looking forward to hearing him talk about his novels as well as have an opportunity to ask him questions.
In Language Arts students read the short story 'Borders' and are working on writing a friendly letter from the on behalf of one of the characters.
