Language Arts - Tomorrow we start body paragraph #1 of the essays so you must have completed your introduction paragraph. Those will be collected tomorrow for assessment prior to your first writing conference.

Language Arts - Today we worked on the introduction paragraph of our essay. These are due tomorrow!
Four out of your six stations are due tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10th. My room will be open at lunch today and tomorrow and I'm available tomorrow after school as well. Make sure you check out D2L for instructions and information.
In the essay unit you should now have your essay topic chosen and a strong thesis statement prepared. Tomorrow we will continue working on the outline/web so that we can start with the introduction paragraph on Thursday. It is important that you keep up to date so that you don't get behind in this process. Writing conferences will be starting tomorrow!
This week the grade 8's have started their Japan Unit! Groups are moving through 8 stations to get some basic knowledge about this fascinating country and it's unique culture. Students will be looking at the Pacific Rim area as well as the four main islands of Japan and it's geography. A quick snapshot of the art of Haiku will allow the students to display their own creations in their visual journals. Background information and readings are available for students so they can look at the Edo Period and the effects of isolation during this time. Small groups are also researching world religions and will then have an opportunity to take part in a critical thinking activity.
In Language Arts we are laying some groundwork for the upcoming Essay Writing Unit which will begin next week.
This Friday the students will be having their last literacy group meeting. Make sure you are ready to present your role and share with your group.

Aztec Children's Storybooks are due today and will be read to the Grade 4 buddies on Friday. The 4's are excited to hear all about the Aztec culture and the adventure that their character is going to embark on!
This week we are looking at 'The Deadly Meeting' and how the conflict progresses between the Spanish and the Aztecs!
Literacy circles are continuing this week and there will be a group meeting on Friday for some in-depth discussion about the characters, conflict and rising action.
